Seasons
Objectives:
- Identify characteristics of each of the four seasons.
- Explain how the Earth's tilt and position around the sun causes the four seasons.
- Define summer solstice, winter solstice, spring equinox, and autumnal equinox.
Pennsylvania has four very distinct seasons: summer, autumn, winter, and spring. Have you ever wondered about these seasons and what causes them? Well, follow these steps and become a seasons expert.
1. Make a list of things that are related to each of the four seasons.
2. Discuss what you think is the cause of the change in seasons.
3. Next, view the Brain Pop video as well as the Seasons and What Causes Seasons videos to help better understand the reason for seasons.
4. Now that you have a better understanding of seasons, attempt Kelly’s orbit activity.
5. Finally, using a four square page show the relationship between the sun and the Earth during each of the four seasons.

- Fold a paper into 4 even sections.
- Label each section as WINTER, SPRING, SUMMER, and FALL.
- Show the angle of the Earth in relation to the Sun for each season.
- Be sure to label the Equator, the North Pole, the South Pole and the Sun's rays on each diagram.
- Label and color the different parts of your diagram.
