Weather Log
Familiarize yourself with the weather in different parts of the United States by memorizing the states, then adopting a city and logging its weather. Complete the following tasks:
Task 1 - Map Challenge
1. Complete the Map Challenge. 2. Use this Map to help memorize the locations of each state. For practice, play some map games at the Quia siteor Cool Geography site. You can then quiz yourself at this State Facts site or this States and Capitols site. **Extension: For an extra challenge learn the spelling of each state and its capital. |
Task 2 - State Facts Mini Poster
1. Select a major US city to become your Adopted City. (List of Cities) 2. Pinpoint the name of your city on our USA wall map. Research information at Enchanted Learning about the state that your city is in and then create an educational mini-poster. 1. Download: Adopted City Weather Log Handout
Save the document in your Weather folder.
2. Fill out the information at the top of your Weather Log. Use the following sites to help:
Zip Code Information
Time Zone Information
3. Enter your city's zip code at: Weather Underground
Save this web page in your Bookmarks and in your Weather folder for easy access (ask your neighbor how if unsure). Here you will find Altitude, Latitude and Longitude information for your city.
4. Record the measurements on your Adopted City Weather Log handout. Record the information at the same time of day for the next few weeks.
**Extension: After several weeks, use the information on your log to graph different statistics from your city over the period of several weeks.
